Humming the Ubique @ Hear Here

Presenting the work : Humming The Ubique

The universe is permeated with radiations that are not perceptible with our human senses. That which is visible and audible to humans is only a very limited part of the electromagnetic and sound spectrum. Think of infrasonic sound, ultraviolet light or cosmic radiation. Artist Aernoudt Jacobs, in his new work
Humming the Ubique, creates a mosaic of wafer-thin foils that transform such radiations into luminous fields of colour and artificial voices. These vocal sounds are created by artificial intelligence, while the colour of the foils intensifies with voltage. The work’s input comes from sensors located along the Hear Here walk, directly translating the city’s present but imperceptible radiations into this audiovisual artwork.

Tuesday through Saturday
10 AM - 6 PM

Presenting the work : Luminous Ether - prototype.

The exhibition Symbiosis: Art in the Age of AI is a platform for dialogue and exploration. Through this show, we aim to develop a deeper understanding of the symbiotic relationship between humans and machines, and demonstrate the wide range of possibilities for using AI in art. As opposed to only focusing on the currently popular type of AI technology (i.e., “generative AI”), we want to present a more broad conceptual and aesthetic landscape of AI arts.
The exhibition features works by Alexandra Dementieva, Anna Frants, Petermfriess, Aernoudt Jacobs, Eunsu Kang, William Latham, Lev Manovich, and Koen Theys.

Listen to the sound of... the sun.

On the occasion of the first public presentation of Heliophone , a collection of objects and design principles of Jacobs based on the photo-acoustic principle is presented in the STUK Verbeeckzaal. Operational prototypes functioning with laser or LED lights, stand next to a DIY chopper and a selection of parabolic mirrors. Jacobs sheds light on the different design components; from lenses and choppers to photo-acoustic cells and horns in different materials and sizes. Plans and drawings further clarify the thought processes and design decisions made.

2014-2015

Aernoudt Jacobs is researching electroactive polymers and other metamaterials in collaboration with EMPA (Zurich) and Liquid Things (University of Applied Arts in Vienna) . Initially Jacobs wants to conduct an investigation into a speaker that can take different shapes and can act simultaneously as an artificial sound filter. Electroactive polymers are materials that change shape as it gets supplied with electricity, and are also referred to as artificial muscles. The following months Aernoudt is doing different research sessions at EMPA and Liquid Things.
