ONCE ALSO THIS WAS A MUTATION |
once also this was a mutation
Key words for this exhibition would be «process», «change», «mutation» and «transformation». The notion of transition is central to Aernoudt Jacobs: transition from magnetism to sound, from light to sound. Movements and vibrations trigger acoustic phenomena, while sound changes through rotating loud speakers. There is a didactic element to the presentation of these works: The audience perceives the technology that brings about and transforms reality, while simultaneously becoming aware of its own active ways of seeing and listening. The encounter with the unfamiliar, with sound generated in ways we cannot imagine, sometimes cannot understand, opens up a room of immediate wonder and a longing for verification. Our immediate perception of the objects is thus questioned, so that we realise that there must be something more to this. This makes a good starting point for reflection. |
